After almost three years of lobbying and trying various government schemes, the parish council were recently informed by Connecting Cambridgeshire that Openreach will be installing full-fibre broadband to Coveney between October and December this year. Previously Openreach listed Coveney properties as either out of scope for any installation, or in scope for some time before December 2026.
To be clear, this will be Fibre To The Premises (FTTP), a huge addition to the existing Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) infrastructure currently installed. Expect speeds measured in 100’s of Mbps rather than 10’s (or 1’s, for the unfortunate folk in Gravel End on occasion) and greater reliability.
Openreach were the council’s preferred installer, as they have the largest number of service providers able to use their infrastructure, which should translate into better competition and so better contract prices for residents.
The council would like to thank Connecting Cambridgeshire for their continued engagement and behind-the-scenes chasing, and to residents who have responded to the council with expressions of interest while we were lobbying.
